  4. IDEA-commissie: werken aan diversiteit, inclusie, gelijkheid en toegankelijkheid

    Diversiteit en inclusie zijn belangrijke onderwerpen voor het NIOO-KNAW. Daarom hebben we de IDEA-commissie in het leven geroepen. De commissie zorgt er niet alleen voor dat diversiteit en inclusie op de agenda staan, maar ook dat er concrete acties en maatregelen zijn.
    Onderzoek in het NIOO-lab om met micro-organismen uit de bodem gewassen te helpen.

  5. Waterkwaliteit in Nederlandse kleine wateren is nog steeds onder de maat

    Maar zo’n 20% van de kleine wateren in Nederland heeft een goede waterkwaliteit. Dat blijkt uit de nieuwste resultaten van het burgeronderzoek ‘Vang de watermonsters’ van 2023. Tachtig procent van de gemeten wateren scoort matig of slecht. Deze wateren bevatten bijvoorbeeld weinig planten of waterdiertjes, te veel meststoffen of zijn troebel. Deze nieuwe metingen bevestigen de trend: al voor het vijfde jaar op rij zijn de resultaten uit dit onderzoek vrijwel onveranderd slecht.

    When light pollution causes the night to disappear, a fundamental clock for life on earth is thrown out of balance. Animals and plants are threatened by artificial light. Many organisms have found their evolutionary niche in the dark of night and must now adapt to bright nights. Some succeed, but for many the brightness becomes a death trap – and causes species to die. Dedicated researchers now shed a new light on the effects of this nocturnal light on nature. Will science find solutions to the problem?

Dieren en planten over de hele wereld worden bedreigd door kunstlicht. Veel organismen hebben zich ontwikkeld om te overleven in donkere omstandigheden en moeten zich nu aanpassen aan de heldere nachten.

  10. Kick off meeting National Centre for Soil Ecology

    The Centre for Soil Ecology (CSE) was established in 2010 by NIOO-KNAW and WUR to bring together soil ecologists in Wageningen. However, as soil ecology is happening all across the Netherlands, there is need to transform the CSE into a National Centre for Soil Ecology (NCSE) to connect soil ecologists across the Netherlands.
