Elizabeth Borer, an honorary NIOO fellow, is a Distinguished McKnight University Professor and Wardle Chair for Microbial Ecology in the Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior at the University of Minnesota, USA. Borer’s research focuses on quantifying how global changes, including land clearing, atmospheric pollution, and species invasions and extinctions, change the composition and function of the world's ecosystems. She studies the effects of these human changes on plant and animal biodiversity, ecosystem processes, disease transmission, and the identity and function of microbes inhabiting individuals (the "microbiome").
