The main focus of my research is the impact of environmental drivers on the spatial population trends of birds and other organisms. I want to understand how ecological and evolutionary processes at the individual level interact and scale-up to population dynamics. I am interested in modelling frameworks that can augment the scientific underpinning of conservation management.
For instance, in the project Cumulative Human Impact on biRd Populations (CHIRP) we study the integrated effect of various environmental drivers on the migratory network and population dynamics of oystercatchers. This type of research is enabled through collaboration within the inter-institutional Centre for Avian Population Studies. I’m a tenured assistant professor at the Radboud University in Nijmegen, and since 2021 an honorary research fellow at NIOO.
