Rose is a knowledgeable, resourceful and a passionate Research Assistant specialized in Microbiology, Virology, Mycology and Molecular biology. Curiosity into nature’s wonders on macro-, and micro scale are driven factors for doing research.
Biografie
In 2006 Rose received, her Master degree (MSc) at Wageningen University (WUR) specialized in Plant Biotechnology and Virology. She continued at the WUR doing research, focusing on the transmission of Iris Yellow Spot Virus (IYSV) and Tomato Spotted Wilt Virus (TSWV) by thrips, T. tabaci and F. occidentalis. Her next challenge was as a junior researcher at the company Deltacell in Leiden, were she was working on Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease COPD looking into signal pathways.
In 2008 she started as a Research Assistant at the NIOO-KNAW in the department of Microbial Ecology, first in the Riks Laanbroek group and later in Jos Raaijmakers group working on different projects (Salmon microbiome, diversity and functionality of the endophytic microbiome of orchids (Phalaenopsis), microbiome of Striga and inhibition of Haustorium development). Currently she joined Mark Zwart’s group, supporting the project of Dieke Boezen zooming into natural occurring plant viruses in native plant species.

Deciphering the microbiome of fish eggs to mitigate emerging diseases in aquaculture
In aquaculture, diseases caused by the fungal-like oomycete Saprolegnia, but also ectoparasites are causing significant declines in fish and crayfish populations. To date, these diseases are controlled in aquaculture mainly by formalin treatment.
