Over

As a research assistant within the Animal Ecology Department I assist with various projects from the Rowe research group. Here I am involved in the molecular analysis of samples, managing data, and assisting with fieldwork.

Biografie

Throughout my career I have always been passionate about understanding animal behaviour and its underlying mechanisms. At the University of Groningen I completed a master in Behavioural and Cognitive Neurosciences. Here I had the opportunity to be involved with various interesting research projects. In the first, I studied sleep/wake rhythms in barnacle geese and starlings to investigate the impact of sleep deprivation. After this, I conducted a research project in Switzerland where I focused on the role of MCH neurons in the hypothalamus and in regulating sleep in context-dependent ways in mice.

These experiences led me to NIOO where I can combine my love of animals with my interest in eco-physiological research. I enjoy contributing to meaningful research on avian microbiomes and engaging in both field and laboratory work. I am also involved in the management of the samples and data collected within the department, and look forward to supporting the fascinating research here for some time to come.

    Project 2025–2029
Our view of microbes has recently undergone a paradigm shift (the so-called ‘microbiome revolution’). Previously seen as unwanted harbingers of disease, it is now widely recognised that microbes can be beneficial and that the millions of microbes living in and on the bodies of animals and plants (i.e., the microbiome) can have profound effects on host biology.
