For more than a century, many hundreds of well-trained volunteers have assisted in ringing wild birds in the Netherlands. The lightweight rings used to track the birds' movements are like miniature passports. They provide valuable knowledge about migration routes, and population growth and survival of bird species. It helps the Centre for Avian Migration & Demography keep abreast of the latest developments for purposes of science, conservation and policy.
