Nature in Production: fish ecology at the Marker Wadden (NiPFish)
In this project we study how novel ecosystem Marker Wadden can provide suitable habitat for fish reproduction and forage area. Marker Wadden is a newly created archipelago in Lake Markermeer with shallow habitats aimed to create shelter and provide habitat for fish and birds. Here, we study the abundance of fish larvae in different habitats (sheltered, exposed and with and without emergent vegetation). Furthermore, we sampled food availability and habitat conditions for fish larvae and adult fish. We studied how adult fish use this novel ecosystem with telemetry, using a hydrophone network on Marker Wadden and in the surrounding lake, in collaboration with partners.
