Studying species in isolation is a great way to make experimental work tractable, reproducible and totally irrelevant. In this project in collaboration with Utrecht University and Wageningen University and Research, we are seeking to understand how the chicken microbiome affects the persistence of conjugative plasmids carrying antibiotic resistance genes. The project is lead by Dr. Egil Fischer (Utrecht University), and carried out by PhD candidate Jesse Alderliesten (Utrecht University) and Dr. Sarah Duxbury (Wageningen University and Research).
