Climate Change and Governance in Indonesia and the Caribbean: A Pilot Program on Marine Protected Areas
Led by a coordinating team consisting of David Kloos, Yvonne Kunz, Sikko Visscher (all Royal Netherlands Institute of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies (KITLV-KNAW), Liesbeth Bakker (Netherlands Institute of Ecology (NIOO-KNAW), and Lisa Becking (Wageningen University & Research (WUR)/Naturalis), and culminating in a special, project-based theme group at the Netherlands Institute of Advanced Sciences (NIAS-KNAW), this two-year pilot project aimed to find preliminary answers to the question of how and to what extent the governance of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in Indonesia and the Caribbean is able to respond to the impact of climate change; to develop a transdisciplinary approach to the study of social-ecological systems more generally; and to carry out the groundwork for continuation in a more fully-fledged research program.
