About

I like the challenge of identifying and counting the microscopic aquatics organims, by microscopy or with a flowcytometer.

Biography

My work is to assist in the planning and implementation of NIOO research; specializing in phytoplankton identification and counting, by microscopy, flowcytometry or other techniques.
While working at the NIOO I gained working experience with various flowcytometry platforms; BD Influx, Moflo Legacy, Cytosense by Cytobouy, FlowCAM by FluidImaging, BD Accuri C6, Coulter Counter.

I started my education at WUR, completing the BSc Soil, Water and Atmosphere and continued in Wageningen with the MSc Earth System Science, specializing in Aquatic Ecology.
In my MSc thesis I used the Multispecies Freshwater Biomonitor (MFB) to research the behavioural response of gammarids to the kairomones from fish. During my internship at the NIOO I worked with Dr. Slawek Cerbin on the effects of multiple stressors on Daphnia.
The combination of curiosity driven aquatic research and development of new methods to attracted me to stay at the Netherlands institute of Ecology (NIOO-KNAW)

In my job I find it important to work with accuracy and attention to details. I enjoy the role of being a team member and the interaction with various cultural and educational backgrounds. Gathering insights and gaining new knowledge keeps me motivated.
