(Still) searching for the best soil in the Netherlands – search expanded to be Europe-wide

In the previous post I described my ideal soil and launched the search for the best soils in the Netherlands. I’ve got quite some good nominations so far (polder soils in Dronten and Oostwaardersplassen, peaty and sandy soils in Drenthe, Maasheggen, a potato farm in Brabant, grand-father’s vegetable garden in Italy, grand-father’s farm in Germany, wineyeard in France… just to name a few). Big thanks to everyone for nominations so far!

As seen from the variety of places, everyone seems to have opinion on the best soils. If you think your soil will be even better, let me know! I will include 20 soils in the preliminary screening in which I will measure fungal biomass, traits and some carbon related parameters. You will get the results (how good is your soil compared to other soils) and if your soil proves to be one of the best ones, it will be included in the full experiment!

Especially soils from Finland would be welcome (erityisesti suomalaiset maaperänäytteet olisivat tervetulleita!).
