Despite its many secrets and wonders, oceans have been under threat for years. Corals are dying and sea life is disappearing. Although this is a global phenomenon, some people are affected more than others—and as with many a climate issue, these inequalities bear witness of the afterlife of (post)colonialism. In this talk, we shed light on the ambiguous nature of marine protection and the colonial dimensions of ocean health. -

Zaden liften kilometers verder mee met vissen dan gedacht
Via hun darmen kunnen zoetwatervissen plantenzaden veel verder verspreiden dan eerder gedacht. Dit maakt hen opeens ‘met stip’ belangrijke verbinders van leefgebieden en dus een factor om rekening mee te houden in natuurbeheer en –herstel. Een onderzoeksteam ontdekte bij het Nederlands Instituut voor Ecologie (NIOO-KNAW) dat hun vertering trager werkt bij flinke inspanning: zie vandaag het tijdschrift Functional Ecology on line.
