Promotie Natalie van Dis: snelle aanpassing aan klimaatverandering bij wintervlinder
Op 6 juni 2023 verdedigt Natalie van Dis haar proefschrift met de titel 'Evolution in action: drivers of rapid adaptation to climate change in the winter moth'. De promotieplechtigheid zal om 12.45 u. aanvangen en vindt plaats in het Academiegebouw van de Rijkuniversiteit Groningen.

On 6 June 2023, Natalie van Dis will defend her PhD thesis titled "Evolution in action: drivers of rapid adaptation to climate change in the winter moth". The ceremony will start at 12:45 h., in the academy building of the University of Groningen.

Het programma voor leden van de Ringersvereniging start om 09.30 met een Algemene Leden Vergadering. De rest van het programma voor alle geinteresseerden start om 10.45.

Stairway to Impact Award for Kamiel Spoelstra
Kamiel Spoelstra is this year's winner of the Stairway to Impact Award. The Dutch Research Council (NWO) has awarded him the prize for his contribution towards the acquisition and propagation of knowledge about the impact of artificial light on flora and fauna. -

Sperm are critical to successful fertilisation in sexually reproducing animals. The function of sperm – to find and fertilise ova – is universal throughout the animal kingdom, yet the sperm cell is the most morphologically diverse cell type known. -
Light on Nature
We produce more and more light at night. Virtually everybody in Europe or the US lives in a light polluted place: all areas where artificial light always exceeds the light of the moon and the stars. These areas expand with about two percent per year, while already light polluted areas become even brighter at night. -
Licht op Natuur / Licht op Landschap
Het wordt steeds lichter 's nachts. Bijna iedereen in Europa en de VS woont op een plek die als 'lichtvervuild' kan worden aangemerkt: daar is is ons eigen licht altijd sterker dan het licht van de de maan en de sterren. Elk jaar neemt dat gebied met twee procent toe, terwijl de al lichte plaatsen nog lichter worden. -
