Nearly 1000 'citizen scientists' sent in their observations this year on Soil Animal Days 2019. And a surprisingly high number of people tried to do something in return for the vital services these soil creatures provide for us.

Bijna 1000 waarnemers verspreid over het land ontdekten tijdens de Bodemdierendagen 2019 zo’n 7900 ‘bodemschatjes’.

Earlier this month, His Royal Highness King Willem-Alexander paid a working visit to the Netherlands Institute of Ecology (NIOO-KNAW). The visit included a tour, an introduction to NIOO's three major research themes, and a number of hands-on ecological measurements and experiments in which the King took part.

Koning Willem-Alexander bracht vandaag een werkbezoek aan het Nederlands Instituut voor Ecologie (NIOO-KNAW) in Wageningen. Naast een rondleiding kreeg de Koning uitleg over de onderzoeksthema's van het NIOO én nam hij deel aan een aantal praktische metingen en experimenten.

NIOO's head of Microbial Ecology Jos Raaijmakers has been elected a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW).

Jos Raaijmakers, hoofd Microbiële Ecologie van het NIOO, is benoemd tot lid van de Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie van Wetenschappen.
