Despite its many secrets and wonders, oceans have been under threat for years. Corals are dying and sea life is disappearing. Although this is a global phenomenon, some people are affected more than others—and as with many a climate issue, these inequalities bear witness of the afterlife of (post)colonialism. In this talk, we shed light on the ambiguous nature of marine protection and the colonial dimensions of ocean health. -

Symposium: is de scholekster nog te redden?
Het gaat slecht met de scholekster in Nederland. Vergeleken met andere weidevogels heeft de scholekster nog veel meer problemen, en maakt daarom zeker kans op de titel nationale pechvogel. Waarom gaan de aantallen voor deze vogel zo achteruit? En kunnen we dit tij nog keren? Op zaterdag 29 oktober organiseert de Vogelbescherming en Sovon Vogelonderzoek Nederland een symposium met de meest recente inzichten. -
Impression of the King's visit to NIOO
Earlier this month, His Royal Highness King Willem-Alexander paid a working visit to the Netherlands Institute of Ecology (NIOO-KNAW). The visit included a tour, an introduction to NIOO's three major research themes, and a number of hands-on ecological measurements and experiments in which the King took part.
