Impact of nutrients
Nutrient availability in natural ecosystems has increased due to anthropogenic activities like spill-over from agricultural ecosystems. In the Netherlands, this has led to the acidification of natural areas for example. At NIOO, we aim to understand the impact of nutrients on natural systems in more detail, to help to bring back the balance. -

De mens heeft ervoor gezorgd dat tegenwoordig veel meer voedingsstoffen beschikbaar zijn in natuurlijke systemen. Bijvoorbeeld doordat het 'weglekt' uit de landbouw of het verkeer. In Nederland heeft dat geleid tot verzuring van natuurgebieden bijvoorbeeld. Bij het NIOO willen we de impact van voedingsstoffen op natuurlijke systemen beter begrijpen, om zo te helpen de balans terug te vinden. -

Gelukkig geven ze ook oplossingen aan om insecten te helpen in een opwarmende wereld, compleet met managementstrategieĆ«n. -

āIf no action is taken to better understand and reduce the impact of climate change on insects, we will drastically limit our chances of a sustainable future with healthy ecosystems.ā This warning in a very topical paper in Ecological Monographs comes from 70 scientists from 19 countries around the world. But, they also provide ways to help insects in a warming world complete with management strategies. -
Impression of the King's visit to NIOO
Earlier this month, His Royal Highness King Willem-Alexander paid a working visit to the Netherlands Institute of Ecology (NIOO-KNAW). The visit included a tour, an introduction to NIOO's three major research themes, and a number of hands-on ecological measurements and experiments in which the King took part. -
Koning op werkbezoek bij het NIOO
Koning Willem-Alexander bracht vandaag een werkbezoek aan het Nederlands Instituut voor Ecologie (NIOO-KNAW) in Wageningen. Naast een rondleiding kreeg de Koning uitleg over de onderzoeksthema's van het NIOO Ć©n nam hij deel aan een aantal praktische metingen en experimenten. -
NIOO Thema Biodiversiteit
Het NIOO doet op alle niveaus onderzoek aan de biodiversiteit. Kleine en grote organismen, van genetische diversiteit tot de diversiteit van soorten en zowel op het land als in het water. Met de uitkomsten van ons onderzoek kunnen we de biodiversiteit in Nederland en daarbuiten beter beschermen. -

On 6 July,Ā His Majesty King Willem-Alexander will pay a working visit to the Netherlands Institute of Ecology (NIOO-KNAW) in Wageningen. Ā
