    Bij het NIOO streven we ernaar om de biodiversiteit op de groene daken en het onderzoeksterrein te stimuleren. Ter ere van de 68e verjaardag van het instituut in 2022 starten NIOO-onderzoekers met een BioBlitz, waarbij NIOO-ers in periodes van een jaar soorten zoeken op het eigen terrein.

  4. How genetic research contributes to effective lion conservation

    Human measures to protect lions have an impact on the genetic health of populations. Dutch and Kenyan scientists discovered this by analysing the DNA of 171 Kenyan lions. "By fencing reserves, for example, the chance of inbreeding increases." With the knowledge and tools from the research, management authorities in Kenya can better protect their valuable wildlife in the future.

  5. Hoe genetisch onderzoek bijdraagt aan effectieve bescherming van de leeuw

    Menselijke maatregelen om leeuwen te beschermen hebben impact op de genetische gezondheid van de populaties. Dat ontdekten Nederlandse en Keniaanse wetenschappers door het DNA van 171 Keniaanse leeuwen te analyseren. "Door bijvoorbeeld reservaten te omheinen, neemt de kans op inteelt toe." Met de kennis en tools uit het onderzoek kunnen beheerinstanties in Kenia hun waardevolle wildlife in de toekomst nog beter beschermen.

    At NIOO we strive to stimulate the biodiversity on the green roofs and the terrain. On the occasion of NIOO’s 68th birthday, colleagues launched a BioBlitz: a period of biological surveying to record the living species within a designated area.
