Vind jij het leuk om met dieren te werken en wil je (tijdelijk) jonge vogeltjes verzorgen? In de maanden mei, juni, juli en augustus zijn er jonge koolmezen bij het NIOO die met de hand grootgebracht worden. De dieren worden verzorgd vanaf 10 dagen oud totdat ze zelfstandig kunnen eten. -

How genetic research contributes to effective lion conservation
Human measures to protect lions have an impact on the genetic health of populations. Dutch and Kenyan scientists discovered this by analysing the DNA of 171 Kenyan lions. "By fencing reserves, for example, the chance of inbreeding increases." With the knowledge and tools from the research, management authorities in Kenya can better protect their valuable wildlife in the future.

Hoe genetisch onderzoek bijdraagt aan effectieve bescherming van de leeuw
Menselijke maatregelen om leeuwen te beschermen hebben impact op de genetische gezondheid van de populaties. Dat ontdekten Nederlandse en Keniaanse wetenschappers door het DNA van 171 Keniaanse leeuwen te analyseren. "Door bijvoorbeeld reservaten te omheinen, neemt de kans op inteelt toe." Met de kennis en tools uit het onderzoek kunnen beheerinstanties in Kenia hun waardevolle wildlife in de toekomst nog beter beschermen.
