Restoration ecology

Research theme

Many terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems worldwide have been disturbed by local and global environmental changes. A key challenge for NIOO is to employ basic insights emerging from studies on interactions of species with their (a)biotic environments in order to restore and create ecosystems to reach the desired target states. Our aims are:

Projects
Publications
  • Contribute to restoration of ecosystems in two ways, by creating novel restoration techniques, and by testing the effectiveness of restoration techniques.
  • Link research with practice in consortia with stakeholders.
  • Integrate research results and methodologies in the practice of nature conservation and regulatory bodies.
  • Advise on large-scale restoration projects as well as taking positions in committees or boards of organisations working on restoration
