My PhD project consists of investigating how DNA methylation dynamics differ between species with different life-history traits. In particular I will focus on a more multi-species comparison to evaluate general epigenetic patterns. An on going experiment is being conducted in order to determine how trans-generational dynamics of DNA methylation differ between species with different reproduction modes (Clonal vs Apomictic vs Sexual reproducing plants). This comparison will be primarily done using a RRBS technique recently developed by Dr. Verhoeven's lab, epiGBS.

EpiDiverse: Epigenetic Diversity in Ecology (www.epidiverse.eu) - EpiDiverse is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network aimed at the study of epigenetic dynamics in wild plant species. The network joins research groups from ecology, molecular (epi)genetics and bioinformatics to explore the genomic basis, molecular mechanisms and ecological significance of epigenetic variation in natural plant populations. 15 Early Stage Researchers (ESR) are being trained to become expert plant epigeneticists, equipping them with the interdisciplinary skills necessary to tackle this new research area. EpiDiverse is funded by the EU Horizon 2020 program and involves 12 partners from academia, non-profit organizations and industry located in the Netherlands, Germany, France, Spain, Czech Republic, Italy and Austria.
