Michaela Brehm (1959) graduated as biological technician with a specialisation in ecology and environmental control at the 'Rheinische Akademie' in Cologne (Germany) in 1982. From 1982 until 1983 she worked at the 'Institute for Plantphysiology' at the RWTH in Aachen (Germany). She was responsible for the phytopathological fungi- and bacteria-collection and did electron-microscopically work. Her next position was from 1983 until 1991 at the 'Institute for Nematology and Vertebrate Research' at the BBA in Muenster (Germany). The first three years she did field- and laboratory-studies in a project about the behaviour and the control of voles in fruitcultures. From 1986 until 1991 she changed to studies on non-target effects of pesticides on vertebrate animals with special consideration on birds. In 1992 she started her employment at the Department of Food Web Studies at the NIOO-KNAW Centre for Limnology. Within this group she does all kinds of molecular biological work, especially genetical and morphological studies on Daphnia and algae.
