Description of study site Westerheide and Boslust in the “Groot Warnsborn” area, nearby Arnhem in the Netherlands. This area consists of plots of mixed pine and deciduous forest with small open patches, in total covering approximately 200 ha and containing about 400 nest boxes distributed in a regular grid. (see Class, Brommer & van Oers 2019. Ecology and Evolution 9(16), 8987-8994)
