Van Donk Group

Ellen van Donk focuses on how ecological mechanisms and abiotic factors govern the dynamics and structure of food webs in aquatic ecosystems.

Van Donk initiated the below mentioned innovative research lines and they still form the main core of the research program of her department. She combines curiosity-driven research in aquatic ecology with more strategic-applied research in nature conservation and ecosystem restoration.

Expertise

  • Impact of chemical information transfer on food web interactions in lakes
  • Ecological stoichiometry
  • Host-parasite interactions in plankton
  • Mixotrophy
  • Biological control of toxic cyanobacteria
  • Ecological restoration of lakes and ecotechnology
