Heterogeneity in habitat structure is hypothesized to have a great impact on the biodiversity and ecosystem functioning of ditch systems. The construction of nature friendly shore lines- one of the most frequently applied lake restoration measures in the Netherlands aims to increase the structure only at a local scale. In this project, we explore how we can quanitify structure not only at a local scale of a ditch, but also at larger spatial scales (interconnected ditch systems, to catchment areas).
