Honorary fellows of NIOO-KNAW
The Netherlands Institute of Ecology (NIOO-KNAW) collaborates with many researchers in the Netherlands and abroad. The honorary fellows are a special category in this respect. From within their own institute or university, they collaborate with NIOO colleagues to strengthen the working field by sharing knowledge and ideas. Consequently, they also regularly conduct joint research at NIOO, set up new projects or publish research results together. We currently have nine talented honorary fellows. -
Biodiversity on the NIOO terrain
At NIOO we strive to stimulate the biodiversity on the green roofs and the terrain. On the occasion of NIOO’s 68th birthday, colleagues launched a BioBlitz: a period of biological surveying to record the living species within a designated area. -

IDEA stands for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility: important subjects for a research institute. At NIOO, we now have a special IDEA committee dedicated to this subject and taking concrete actions. -

Flipping Lakes is a game in which you, as a player, take on the role of a catchment water manager. As the water manager you are tasked to prevent a recreation lake from “flipping” from a clear and biodiverse state to a turbid and algae rich state. -
Light on Nature
We produce more and more light at night. Virtually everybody in Europe or the US lives in a light polluted place: all areas where artificial light always exceeds the light of the moon and the stars. These areas expand with about two percent per year, while already light polluted areas become even brighter at night. -
