2nd Symposium of the National Centre for Soil Ecology (NCSE)

This weekend it's the National Science Weekend in the Netherlands! The KNAW is organising a fun science festival for kids and parents. NIOO colleagues will join to show the wonders of algae and soil animals.

On 15 November 2024, Xianhui Shi will defend her PhD thesis, titled "Nature is a complex maze for the geline hyperparasitoids"

On 22 October 2024 NIOO researcher Yuting Dong will defend her PhD thesis "The effect of biotic and abiotic factors on reproduction in a false widow spider".

On 11 September, Sophie van Rijssel will defend her PhD thesis, titled "Vital soils for sustainable agriculture". The ceremony will take place in the Omnia building of the Wageningen University and Research.

On 4 September, Xu Han will defend her PhD thesis, titled "Understanding Grassland Ecosystem Responses to Different Grazing Intensities". The ceremony will take place in the Omnia building of the Wageningen University and Research.

This year we are celebrating an anniversary: the Soil Animal Days (Bodemdierendagen) are ten years old! In September we are starting our citizen science project again. To give this 10th anniversary an extra festive touch, we will start this edition with a very special evening.

Under the banner of the National Science Agenda, a broad programme of three living labs and an umbrella project started in 2021. During the symposium at Hotel Zuiderduin (Egmond aan Zee), interim results of the research programme will be presented, two external keynote speakers will share inspiring experiences and there will be time in the workshop sessions to reflect and give input.

The 6th conference of the Netherlands Society for Evolutionary Biology (NLSEB) will take place on the 22nd (PhD/postdoc meeting) and 23rd (main meeting) of April 2024.
