Description of study site The area comprises three different habitat: a natural wooded area, dominated by the deciduous Downy Oak (Quercus pubescens) and by the evergreen Holm Oak (Quercus ilex), a reforested evergreen pine area dating 55 years, comprising Pinus halepensis and Cupressus sempervirens, and a section of the reforested pine area (Pinus halepensis and Cupressus sempervirens dating 55 years) that was transformed by sylvicultural management in 1996 to include broad-leaved trees (Quercus, Fraxinus, Acer and Ulmus). The third habitat has been included in our study since 1997.
