The project looks at the removal of compounds of emerging concern, such as pharmaceuticals and pesticides, from Anaeobically digested black water, municipal wastewater and effluent of wastewater treatment plant, in a microalgae and microalgae-bacteria photobioreactor. We also study the effect of species richness on CEC removal and the removal mechanisms responsible for the CEC removal. Further we quantify the CEC accumulation in microalgal biomass. This is detrimental for the application of microalgal biomass as fertilizer.
