Message for Lima Climate Conference from Global Soil Biodiversity Conference in Dijon

News
05-12-2014

December 5th was 'World Soil Day'. A good reason for scientists visiting the Global Soil Biodiversity Conference (Dijon, France), to send their message to the Lima Climate Change Conference. Dozens of  soil researchers, including several NIOO researchers, sent their video messages to the parties negotiating in Lima hoping they will listen to this serious call.

"The soil is the base of our existence. Everything we eat, drink, breathe and wear regularly comes into contact with the soil", said Professor Wim van der Putten at the Global Soil Biodiversity Conference in Dijon this week.

At the conference, soil researchers from 56 countries discussed how we can take care of our soil. To maintain a global human population, we need to take good care of soils, soil biodiversity and all the resources that make soil biodiversity flourish.
