The facility
The LTER-LIFE lab allows building digital twins (digital replicas) of ecosystems. With these twins, scenarios can be constructed to understand how ecosystems respond to pressures in order to develop effective response strategies. LTER-LIFE will initially focus on 2 of the most extensive and best-studied ecosystems in the Netherlands representing aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems: the Wadden Sea and the Veluwe.
Research topics
Biodiversity, climate change, digital twins, e-infrastructure, plants, animals, environment

Running period
20 August 2023 – 19 August 2033
Equipment/facilities
LTER-LIFE will develop online facilities to support ecological research on a specific locations, specifically to
- Find relevant data, models, tools and expertise
- Support the publication of data and models according to FAIR standards
- Setup and perform data analysis & model runs
- Build and execute digital twins of ecosystems
Data management
LTER-LIFE currently does not manage any data of its own. We do provide support for FAIR data-management and storage. E.g.
