Epigenetics book launch

Epigenetica: Hetzelfde DNA maar toch anders. Hoe kan dat? (The same DNA yet different. How is that possible?) is the title of a new book on epigenetics, to be launched in Leiden on 21 December. NIOO-researcher Koen Verhoeven is one of the authors. He will be answering questions about epigenetics at the launch.

Each cell in our body contains the same DNA. So how is it possible that heart cells look different, and function in a different way, from liver cells for instance?

The authors of Hetzelfde DNA maar toch anders. Hoe kan dat? (The same DNA yet different. How is that possible?) examine epigenetic processes in people, animals, plants and micro-organisms, and the role they play in normal development as well as ageing, sickness and healing.

How could more knowledge about epigenetics help us find new treatments, or improve the resistance of plants and animals?
