Microbes are a major source that has not been fully developed and utilized. My work is to introduce beneficial microbes into the plant-soil system and evaluate the potential role of soil-resident microbes, as they may compromise or assist probiotics.

Zhikang Wang is from China, as a Ph.D. student, he currently works at Netherland Institute of Ecology (NIOO-KNAW) in collaboration with Nanjing Forestry University and Utrecht University. Researches are focused on Soil Microbial Ecology, Plant-microbe interactions, and Environmental Science.

  • Restoring degraded lands with microbial inoculants

    Project 2019–Present
Land degradation usually leads to a reduction in soil fertility, decline of plant productivity, and loss of biodiversity. Introducing beneficial microbial inoculants to degraded lands represents a promising and sustainable strategy. The aim of this project is to reveal the ecological roles of microbial inoculants and soil-resident microbial community in restoring both belowground biodiversity and aboveground productivity in the degraded land.
