About

The major goal of my research is to understand how cognition is shaped by the environment. My interest is focused on avian behaviour, using mainly experiments in the field but also captive studies.

Biography

Dr. Eva Serrano Davies studied Biology at the Autonomous University of Madrid (Spain), after which she did her MSc on conservation ecology at the Complutense University of Madrid. She performed her PhD on the habitat influence on life-history and behavioural traits of cavity-nesting birds at the Spanish National Museum of Natural Sciences. During this period she visited the Max Plank Institute for Ornithology (Germany) and the University College Cork (Ireland) to focus on the study of personality and cognitive traits. In 2018 Eva came back to her alma mater for her first postdoc, studying the conservation problems of stepped-land birds. She has been working at NIOO at the Animal Ecology group as a postdoc since 2019, where she focuses on the interface between behavioural, cognitive and evolutionary ecology to investigate how habitat quality drives variation in cognitive and behavioural traits.
