Einar Martinez de la Parte

I am a mycologist and plant pathologist with a PhD in Plant Sciences from Wageningen University and a Masters in Microbial Ecology from the University of Havana. My PhD thesis focused on Fusarium species diversity, plant-microbe interactions and host resistance mechanisms. Prior to my doctoral studies, I worked as a researcher at the Plant Health Research Institute in Cuba, where I conducted studies on fungal plant pathogens in different crops and developed sustainable disease management strategies. I am interested in interdisciplinary research to develop practical solutions to global agricultural challenges. During my postdoc at NIOO, we will be evaluating the potential of fungal candidates to minimize yield losses caused by Striga, a root parasitic weed that affects many cereal crops throughout the sub-Saharan region.
