Over the past decades, Lake Chao, a large shallow lake in China, has been heavily loaded with nutrients. At the same time, the hydrology of the lake has been severely affected by the building of a dam in the lake outlet. This has resulted in a loss of most of the submerged macrophytes and high densities of phytoplankton. The aim of this project is to identify relative impact of nutrient loading and changed hydrology on the ecology of the lake.
