Although the monogonont rotifer Brachionus calyciflorus has been the most widely studied freshwater rotifer species it has only recently been characterized as a cryptic species complex. The aim of this project is to characterize the phylogenetics, phylogeography, morphometry and ecological differentiation within this species complex and address the question how species boundaries are maintained in the face of recurring hybridization and introgression.
