ISME17 is the 17th edition of international symposium on microbial ecology, which takes place every two years. The conference is a frontrunner in the field of microbial ecology, with an average of around 1,750 international scientists attending the meeting.

Confirmed keynote speakers for ISME17 include Chantal Abergel (CNRS, France), Antje Boetius (Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology, Germany), Yoichi Kamagata (National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, Japan), Phil Hugenholtz, (University of Queensland, Australia), Jan-Roelof van der Meer (University of Lausanne, Switzerland) and Jim Tiedje (Michigan State University, USA).
