In the area of soil and rhizosphere microbiology relatively few efforts have been made to study the biodiversity and functions of beneficial microbial communities present in the native habitats of ancestors of modern crop species. The overall goal of the proposed project is to conduct an in-depth analysis of the biodiversity and functions of microorganisms in the rhizosphere of ancestors and cultivated varieties of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) grown in their native habitat in Colombia.
